Bunion Surgery Continued
At ten weeks post surgery my foot has continued to heal well except for the area closest to my heel. I really don't think my foot likes the sutures. It still throbs and is always slightly swollen. It has now begun to get redder.
As a tip. My son told me when he went to Venice everyone there uses rain overshoes. Why don't I see if I could find any to put over my surgery shoe so I wouldn't have to wash the sole every time I come back in the house? I would also be able to get out in bad weather. I found some on Amazon website and ordered. They take awhile to come from China. They proved to be very helpful. Wished I knew to order them earlier. I bought the stretchy latex ones so the black matched my winter boots but the site also sells see-through zippered ones too.
At 10.5 weeks the bad spot on my foot swelled up and started oozing clear fluid. I tried to press out what I could to help with the pain/pressure. I called the secretary the next day in case I should go to walk-in clinic but as my appointment to see doc is on Friday I was told to wait until then. Pic below is what it looked like that Monday night when it was oozing.
At the doctor appointment on Friday, he was firstly very happy with my range of flexibility. He said I was a good example for that. He said you have to feel pain to work it. I am working on getting my toe to flex both ways as much as possible.
Apparently an undissolved suture wants to come out and is causing the problem in my foot. He says some people's skin don't like sutures and mine definitely doesn't. After cleaning the area he took a big needle and drained the swollen areas. He sweetly forewarned me of possible pain as he went to drain it. I looked away and hardly felt anything. He then took tweezers and plucked out the suture. The nurse placed an iodine soaked gauze on it (pulls out the bad stuff) and then band-aid on top of that. I have to change it every day for a week.
Yay! I don't have to wear my surgery shoe anymore!
Pic below taken as I am waiting for the doc. Notice tweezers waiting in top left corner. Also you will see x-rays of my foot with metal inside.
Below are pics as foot is healing during the week.
That last pic is from Friday. It is the 12th week post op. I had to go back to the doc for a check-up due to the infection. It is healing as it should. A couple spots the doc could tell are still not happy but if I need to I can call. I don't have to wear the toe spacer anymore (apparently you wear for six weeks post but I had to wear extra week due to infection). Yay!
So for now I am just working on those bad spots. I see the doc in June as I want to do the other foot in December.
